The Black British City Group and the Society of Black Lawyers hosted the “Breaking Barriers Student Law Conference” on 12 October 2018, the conference was attended by BAME students seeking a career in the legal profession.
During the course of the day, the conference covered how aspiring lawyers from BAME backgrounds can leverage opportunities for career success and explore topics surrounding diversity within the profession.
The conference was attended by Sid Shukla who participated in a panel event on access to the legal profession with co-panellists including Leslie Thomas Q.C (Joint Head of Garden Court Chambers) and Ranjit Sond (President of the Society of Asian Lawyers).
Faria Ali, who led a masterclass on interview techniques, commented:
“Conferences like this one are brilliant opportunities for those starting out in the profession to meet with, and learn from the experiences of, those who faced similar challenges and overcame them to chart successful legal careers. The benefits of making role models from BAME backgrounds more visible cannot be overstated and this conference achieved exactly that.”
