NOTICED launches Best Practices Report 2024 on Recruitment, Retention and Progression of Ethnic Minority Talent

NOTICED has launched the second edition of its Best Practices Report on recruitment, retention and progression of those from ethnic minority backgrounds drawing on the experience of its 25 member law firms.

The report follows a series of roundtable discussions, led by the NOTICED Steering Committee and attended by a mix of representatives from the NOTICED member firms.

Acknowledging the progress made over recent years, the group identified five new recommendations:

  • Adopt and develop more robust systems for processing and analysing data in relation to ethnic minority employees whilst continuing with efforts to gather data in relation to ethnic minority employees at the more senior levels;
  • Implement earlier interventions to nurture and develop talent through formal programmes of sponsorship and mentorship and wider support through active allyship;
  • Instil confidence in employees of ethnic minority backgrounds that they are part of a genuinely inclusive and meritocratic environment;
  • Normalise conversations around race; and
  • Embed responsibility and accountability for racial diversity at all levels.

NOTICED’s Chair, and author of the report, Faria Ali said: We’re delighted to have published the NOTICED Best Practices Report 2024 which draws together the wealth of experience which our 25 member law firms bring to the table. As reflected in the report, there is much to celebrate in terms of the progress which has been made over the past five years. That said, a lot remains to be done to truly level the playing field, for those from ethnic minority backgrounds, in the areas of recruitment retention and progression. We hope that the report will prove to be an valuable guide for those who continue to be on this journey.  

The launch of the NOTICED Best Practices Report was attended by representatives of member firms, including partners, associates, trainees and heads of diversity and inclusion.
